Ken Salazar Calls for a New North American Alliance During International Press Conference Marking Spanish Publication of Borderlands
DENVER, CO. (August 5, 2026) — Former U.S. Ambassador to Mexico and Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar today joined Mexican publisher Miguel Ángel Porrúa for an international virtual press conference celebrating the forthcoming publication of the Spanish-language edition of his memoir, Borderlands: Mi lucha por una América unida (Borderlands: My Fight for an Inclusive America).
Broadcast live to media outlets across the United States and Mexico, the event marked the next chapter in Salazar's effort to foster dialogue around the future of North America and the enduring importance of the U.S.-Mexico relationship. During the discussion, Salazar reflected on the experiences that shaped his decades of public service and the themes at the heart of Borderlands: that America's diversity is its greatest strength, that democracy flourishes when people choose common purpose over division, and that the United States and Mexico are stronger when they lead together.
"The United States and Mexico cannot afford a relationship defined only by the issues that divide us," Salazar said. The Spanish-language edition, published by Miguel Ángel Porrúa and available this coming fall, will introduce Borderlands to readers throughout Mexico and the broader Spanish-speaking world, expanding the conversation beyond the United States at a time when the relationship between the two countries is increasingly central to economic competitiveness, border security, energy, trade, conservation, and regional prosperity.
